Nation’s best cricket schools set to put on an exciting show

Twelve schools will do battle in the boys competition and five schools in the girls’ event when the 2018 MCA-MOE National Schools Under-18 Championships begins on Saturday.

The 12 schools have been divided into four groups of three teams each in the boys’ category with the top two from each section advancing to the knockout stages.

Selangor’s SMK Sultan Abdul Samad, SMK Anderson of Perak and Melaka’s SMK Malim are in Group A while Johor’s SMK Tunku Mahmood Iskandar have SMK Tengku Indra Petra of Kelantan and Pahang’s SMK Sri Pekan for company in Group B.

Drawn into Group C are SMK Guntong of Terengganu, Kedah’s SM Sains Sultan Mohamad Jiwa and Sekolah Alam Shah of Putrajaya while SM Tinggi Bukit Mertajam of Penang, Negeri Sembilan’s SMK Bukit Rokan and SMK Seri Setia of Sarawak are in Group D.

The girls’ competition will be held on a round-robin basis involving Negeri Sembilan’s SBPI Jempol, SMK Temenggong of Perak, SMK Sri Pekan, Johor’s SMK Dato’ Penggawa Timur and SMK Tengku Indra Petra.

Bukit Jalil Sports School, the Malaysian Cricket Assocation’s National Centre of Excellence, will not be participating.

Matches will be played in the 20-overs format at four venues – the Kinrara Oval, UKM Oval, Selangor Turf Club and SMK Puchong Jaya 2.

The boys’ final is scheduled for 2.30pm on Tuesday, Feb 19 at Kinrara.
