National players Syahadat Ramli and Ahmad Asby Tan Aris left for Australia on Sunday for a four-month training attachment with Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) duo were selected for the physical training instructor (PTI) programme to enhance their military-related training capabilities.

Syahadat, 24, and Asby, 23, will undergo the training programme until the end of April while also looking to play for a local club in Adelaide.

Royal Malaysian Air Force Cricket Association advisor Lt Col (Rtd) Gerard Singam said Syahadat and Asby will be attached to the RAAF Edinburgh unit.

“This physical training instructors programme involves carrying out physical training for soldiers on military bases, sport-related activities on the base, ensuring the overall fitness of base personnel and maintaining sport facilities,” said Lt Col Gerard.

“I have been working on this matter for quite a while through the Malaysia-Australia Joint Defence Programme. This is the first time RMAF is sending national cricketers to be attached in Australia and a significant achievement by RMAF Cricket.

“While they are there, both players will also be playing for a local cricket club.”

Syahadat and Asby are among several players in the national training pool attached with RMAF.

“Syahadat has been playing at a high level for the national team and was the best student in an advanced PTI course in Ipoh recently. We believe both cricketers are well qualified candidates,” added Lt Col Gerard.
