It was indeed a very special occasion on Thursday, 31st May 2012 when our very own Sports and Youth Minister was at the Kinrara Oval for a gathering of all the MCA Officials and the members of the Media. The MCA took this opportunity to arrange a cricket match for the Sports Minister Challenge Trophy between the Minister Eleven and the Sports Writers Association of Malaysia Eleven. There was lots of fun and excitement when the teams pitted against each other. The Minister's team members included the MCA Exco members and current national players. The Minister had a great time batting but due to heavy downpour towards the end of the 1st innings, the match had to be called off. Both teams were declared Joint Champions. The Minister, later in his speech with a sense of humour mentioned, " I was really looking forward to win this match against the media, this time around we let them off a joint champions but not the next time around".

The President of the Sports Writers Association of Malaysia, Mr. Ahmad Khawari Isa during his short speech also said that they took challenge and look forward to the rematch. Though it was the first time for the Minister and the members of the Media having a hand at cricket, the enthusiasm shown by both the teams was overwhelming.

This special occasion ended on happy note with dinner and with the assurance that the Sports Ministry will do their part in areas of finance to help develop the game. In his speech Yang Berhormat said, "I surely will do whatever is necessary to support the efforts of the Malaysian Cricket Association'. MCA are optimistic that the Youth Minister will give his full support for the development of the game to greater heights.
