Tuhadeleni and Yasmeen power Namibia sweep

Saima Tuhadeleni starred with the new ball again, taking 2-11 to restrict Malaysia to 71 before Namibia’s batters knocked off the target with more than five overs to spare.

Tuhadeleni’s spell, where she trapped Wan Julia and Mahirah Izzati in front, helped Namibia sweep the series 3-0.

Malaysia got off to a steady start after they were put into bat. Winifred Duraisngam cut a ball to the boundary to bring up her team’s first boundary in the fourth over. Yet, Tuhadeleni’s pair of wickets in the sixth over changed the complexion of the contest.

After Duraisingam and Ainna Hamizah put on 30 for the third wicket, Malaysia lost another pair of quick wickets, including their captain who was caught behind for 21 off Jurienne Diergaardt’s bowling. Hamizah brought up the 50 with a lofted drive through the covers but was run out by Tuhadeleni soon after, draining the momentum out of the home side’s innings.

Chasing a shade over three and a half runs an over, Namibia skipper Sune Wittmann got a pair of early boundaries away.

Malaysia, to their credit, continued to fight. Ainna Hamizah castled Mekelaye Mwatile before Dania Syuhada did the same to Wittmann. Playing her first game of the series, Idrina Beh fired in a throw that caught Sylvia Shihepo short of her crease. Merczerly Gorases eased her way to 15 before Mahirah had her caught behind. Restricting Namibia to 48 for four, Malaysia had stormed back into the contest.

Yasmeen Khan, however, quickly put any hopes of a home fightback to rest, smashing two sixes in her 23 to seal the chase.

Brief Scores:

Namibia 76/4 in 14.5 Overs (Yasmeen 23*, Gorases 15, Mahirah 1-9)

Malaysia 71/7 (Ainna Hamizah 22, Duraisingam 21, Tuhadeleni 2-11)

Player of the Match: Saima Tuhadeleni (Namibia)
