Malaysian Cricket Associations Newly Elected Executive Line-up 2025-2027

PRESS STATEMENT

The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its 2025 Biennial General Meeting (BGM), held on 27th April 2025 at the Grand Dorsett Subang.

Official Statement - Mahinda Vallipuram
Incoming President, Malaysia Cricket Association,
2025 Annual General Meeting & Executive Committee Election
27th April 2025

I am honoured to accept the role of President of the Malaysia Cricket Association. I step into this role with a deep sense of responsibility and a clear purpose: to help Malaysian cricket move forward, together.

Let me be very clear - this is not about what happened in the past. It is about what we can and must achieve for the future.

From the offset, I, on behalf of the newly elected Executive Committee reach out to all past committee members and delegates present today to accept that there is something greater than any of us - the health and vitality of Malaysian Cricket. We must come together and support one other and work as one team to achieve our objectives and push the boundaries for Malaysia. The world is moving forward, and we can only reach greater heights when we are united as Team Malaysia.

Cricket in Malaysia needs strong, stable leadership and a clear direction today. I am committed to working with all stakeholders to rebuild structures, refocus priorities, and deliver results that serve the game and its future.

Our focus moving forward is anchored on two pillars: Governance and Outcomes.

Good governance will be the foundation of everything we do. We will operate with full transparency, engaging openly with all state associations and the wider cricket community. The MCA management, players staff, curators and groundsman have worked hard over the years to ensure that we kept our best foot forward. I am very appreciative of the work that has been done by all of them to support Team Malaysia.

We on the Executive committee will ensure efficient, structured processes that allow the game to grow. And we will embed accountability into our system, ensuring discipline and clear reporting guide every decision we make.

Outcomes are where governance meets purpose. We will focus on delivering programmes, that are well-run and sustainable. We would need to drive improvements in performance at every level. And, most importantly, we will ensure real progress - putting Malaysian cricket back on track, where it belongs. The balance between development and high performance must be aligned to achieve greater heights. Malaysia T20 ranking is currently 26 (Men’s) and 29 (women’s) and we must continue to strive to have a “manufacturing process” to not only grow players but more importantly to be in the top 15 within the next ICC cycle (2027-2031).

Malaysia has a busy year whereby our men’s team will be playing in the ICC men’s World Cup qualifiers in Oman in October 2025 and the SEA Games 2025, Thailand. The Women’s team have an equally busy schedule whereby they will be competing in an ACC tournament and the SEA Games 2025, Thailand. We need to support our players in their preparations, and it will be an immediate priority for this incoming committee.

None of this can be achieved alone. It will take all of us - administrators, players, coaches, support staff, grounds staff, and development partners - working together, with a shared sense of responsibility and commitment. It is my hope that all members of the cricket fraternity will come together to make this happen and more importantly close the gaps.

I would like to share that in strict adherence to the MCA Constitution12 out of 14 state affiliates fulfilled their eligibility criteria to vote.  With the eligibility,  11 out of the  12 states cast their votes to shape the future of Malaysian cricket with one state abstaining. The election process was independently supervised by Mr. Fong Wán Hor, General Manager of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), ensuring procedural integrity and alignment with democratic principles.

The just concluded election process

I’d like to express my sincere thanks to those who made this possible.

Firstly, I would like to thank the outgoing committee members who have resigned for their services over the years. Dato’ Ahmad Feisal who served as the Acting President and Mr Gordon Chung, Vice President has been exemplary in providing must needed leadership in the transition period leading up to the AGM today. The constitution provides under clause 20.3 that in the absence of the President and Deputy President, the most senior Vice President shall act as President.

It has to be mentioned, that I have worked with the previous President, Mr. Iqbal Ali for several years. He is truly passionate about the sport and I look forward to working with him and other members in the future to continue to build the game that we love.

I would like to thank the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Y.B. Hannah Yeoh, for her wise counsel and steadfast support over the years for Malaysia Cricket. Her vision has reinforced the importance of focusing on the greater good. The management and its team at KBS and MSN have been very supportive over the years and we would like to continue to build the relationship positively.

The same appreciation and intention go to Ministry of Education of Malaysia, International Cricket Council, Asian Cricket Council along with our development partners like Yayasan Sime Darby, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and others.

I also extend my gratitude to the Sports Commissioner and his team for their valuable guidance on regulatory and constitutional matters helping ensure the integrity when it mattered most. Your contributions strengthen our resolve.

Finally, and not least, I must thank the State Cricket Associations. Throughout this challenging period, you chose not to react emotionally. Instead, you upheld wisdom, calm, and hope. That strength of your leadership in the state associations has been crucial and greatly appreciated. We will represent all states interest and work to develop cricket across the country.

Together, through strong governance and a commitment to real outcomes, we must put Malaysian cricket where it belongs - growing, thriving, and inspiring the next generation of boys and girls …

Thank you.
