Visitors Namibia drew first blood in the bilateral series against Malaysia, chasing down a target of 69 with four overs to spare in a rain-reduced 19-over fixture. Put into bat, Malaysia soon found themselves three down for six. Eventual Player of the Match Saima Tuhadeleni was the wrecker in chief, dismissing Wan Julia and Mahirah Izzati for 2 runs each, the latter trapped in front. Winifred Duraisingam and Ainna Hamizah steadied the innings with a stand of 31, which is incidentally the exact number of runs Hamizah tallied in a top-scoring knock. The right-hander hit three fours, one of which she pulled away ferociously behind square off opposition skipper Sune Wittmann. Her efforts helped Malaysia get to a respectable, albeit under par 68. Chasing less than six an over to win, Sune Wittmann broke the back of the run chase by smashing 36 off just 26 balls. By the time she popped Suabika Manivannan to Aina Najwa at point, Namibia had raced to 47 for three in the eighth over. Duraisingam and off-spinner Dania Syuhada also chipped in with a wicket each, but this did little to deter Namibia’s charge. Yasmeen Khan cleared mid on to seal the win with a boundary. Brief Scores: Namibia 72/4 in 14.5 Overs (Wittmann 36, Dania Syuhada 1-12, Manivannan 1-19) Malaysia 68/7 in 19 Overs (Ainna Hamizah 31, Tuhadeleni 3-16, Wilka Mwatile 1-5) |
