An aggressive 19* from Jurienne Diergaardt powered Namibia to a strong total of 101 before she took three wickets in the second innings to catch Malaysia 27 runs short. The win allowed Namibia to gain an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. Asked to bat first, Namibia skipper Sune Wittman picked up where she left off on Tuesday when she scored 36. This time, she hit a six and a four in a knock of 21. Winifred Duraisingam fought back hard, trapping her opposite number in front before bowling Mekelaye Mwatile for 6 to leave Namibia reeling at 32 for three in the ninth over. Yasmeen Khan and Edelle van Zyle rebuilt the innings with a 33-run stand before Diergaardt hit three fours in her 12-ball stay, helping Namibia take 32 runs off the final three overs. Chasing 102, Malaysia was restricted to 20 for four in the ninth over. Aina Najwa dispatched a full toss to square leg to bring up the first four of the innings but didn’t last long after she was given out LBW off Diergaardt’s bowling. Ainna Hamizah and Dania Syuhada put on 39 for the seventh wicket to bring Malaysia back into the contest. The latter was especially impressive, striking a maximum and a four in her knock of 26. Needing 32 off 23 balls with four wickets in hand, Malaysia would have hoped to get over the line. Yet, Diergaardt was the thorn in Malaysia’s flesh yet again, taking a catch to send Syuhada packing. Malaysia would lose their last four wickets for as many runs as Namibia held their nerve to win the series. Brief Scores: Namibia 101/5 in 20 Overs (Khan 26*, Wittmann 21, Duraisingam 2-11) Malaysia 74/10 in 19.3 Overs (Syuhada 26, Ainna Hamizah 13, Jurienne Diergaardt 3-8) Player of the Match: Jurienne Diergaardt (Namibia) |
