Beginning 18 January to 24 January 2022 at the ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifiers, five nations are set to blaze a trail on the grounds of Kinrara Oval, Home of Cricket Malaysia as they sweat it out for the one available spot at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the Women’s T20 series scheduled to be held in Birmingham in August of this year. Team Scotland was the first to touchdown in Malaysia so as to acclimatise from 6 Degrees to 35 Degrees of tropical sunshine. When asked about their thoughts on the upcoming match, Scotland’s skipper Kathryn Bryce told Malaysian Cricket that her team of 14 is “excited to be participating in this tournament, we have everyone back home supporting the team, so basically we will go out there and play our best” Captain of Sri Lanka Chamari Athapaththu on the other hand is really happy with the team’s preparation. She said that the “team stands strong with a good mix of senior and young players and they enter the matches with confidence”. Bangladesh’s wicket keeper batter Nigar Sultana Joty who has recently assumed captaincy of the team exclaimed that this is a “huge opportunity for her team as they prepare for the world cup” Bangladesh, she said “is here for the win”. Margaret Banja, team Captain for Kenya, commented that although there are teams they have not played against, “When we work together as a team, we apply all the basics and we going to be a force to reckon with”, concluding “Expect a good game from us”. Malaysia’s Winifred Duraisingam views this tournament as a huge learning curve. “The team is young and roaring with talent, we are happy to be playing against more experienced teams.
